Chapter 82.             More questions but few answers

 

 

 

Matt stood there in front of Bryan as he sat on his bed. Unsure what to do or how to say it properly to keep Austin safe he stumbled for the right words and even more important the correct way to explain this to Bryan. If there is one…

Okay now all of you are asking… When did the dream start… and where is the line where Matt and Mike stopped talking and what is real and what is the dream…. Incase you are confused….

 

When Matt was trying to decide if he should butt out or not he did just that… he stayed in his room and finally fell asleep. The dream picks up in Mikes head from there. When Matt was listening in the hall we were already in Mikes dream until when Mike woke up. That was the entire dream. So no, Mike never did anything to Austin, and no, Matt never told Austin to watch out for Mike and Yes Mike and Matt did have the argument where Mike told Matt to butt out of his business. Beyond that they don’t know anymore about his dream yet unless Mike decides to share it. Mike finding Austin when he leaves the bathroom is real and ironic but he does go back to bed and Austin to his room and no one was hurt. In the end Mike was so messed up from his dream that he just needed to go back to bed immediately and outside of Mike and Matt’s argument about Matt staying out of his business in the game room the rest is just the dream.

 

 

 

“So Matt did you or do you have a problem or is there a problem with Mike?” Bryan asked.

“So you are telling me that with all the power you have in this house you are afraid to use it?”

 

I turned at looked him square in the eye. Even if he was taller than me.

 

“NO DJ…. I got a little loud by accident and I caught myself before I got carried away. No DJ … I am not afraid to use my power if that is what you want to call it but I use ‘IT’ when I have to, that way when I need to express myself I don’t have a problem. But if I really want something the bottom line is simple. Either they can vote on it if I think it’s a questionable request or I will just tell them this is how it will be and there is the door if you don’t like it.”

 

“That’s what I mean Tom why don’t you do that this time.”

 

“DJ I thought you were smarter that that man… I don’t play that game anymore. I was like that in the beginning and I almost lost my friends and I felt like I made a total ass out of myself so I backed off and learned a huge lesson about respect. Now Shawn is coming down we can talk later if you are still curious about more but I am done.”

 

“Nah, its okay I got ya.”

 

He giggled and I wasn’t sure if the giggle was for my power or lack of using it. For now I’ll let it go because if I need to use it, it will be on him for being a smart ass. He is welcomed to live with the three C’s and deal with that baby bull shit that happens on the farm! That will change his mind really quick! 

 

“Sorry TJ but I have everything now, we can go.”

 

“Gee thanks Shawn.”

 

I gave him the ‘look’ and he shrugged his shoulders as he put his coat on. I talked to Kyle about watching over the house and he told me to ask Jon because he wanted some alone time with Luke. I asked him when the wedding was and now I got the ‘look’ and he punched me in the arm and went back into his room so I told Jon and we left. He doesn’t care anymore if he has to watch over the place. I am going to have some special time with him as soon as I feel better; he has been so patient with me while I share him with Shawn. The only problem is he is going to have to do this for a while because I am not ready to give up either of them yet and if both can handle it why bother choosing, at least for now. I’ll figure something out eventually. We were out in the truck now and off heading down the hill. It took us another minute because as I was about to leave I remembered the old milk containers and we had to load them up. I didn’t last time and we had almost a dozen of them now. I seem to remember Cameron telling me they were low on them so I am glad I got them in the truck now. 

 

“Tommy look at the smoke over the city it looks bad.”

 

“Yeah I know. I was told this morning and it hasn’t gotten any lighter. It looks like our pyro is back again.”

 

“Are you worried?”

 

“Not really DJ, it’s not close and the river is in the way but it does piss me off when the wind blows it our way and we have to smell it.”

 

“I know it bothers me a lot when that happens TJ.”

 

“I know Shawn maybe someday we will be able to get it stopped but for now we will have to deal with it until we can find out who is causing it.”

 

“Are you planning on looking for them someday Tommy?”

 

“Yeah probably someday if they get too close.”

 

“Yeah I guess you are right. That is a lot of city to hide in.”

 

“Exactly! And that is why I am not rushing to find them.”

 

Then headed down the hill the rest of the way and got onto the unplowed parkway. The snow wasn’t as deep but it was still slow going as they headed to the farm.

 

 

Somewhere downtown….

 

 

 

“Come on let’s getting going this thing is getting way too hot to be in here. The last thing I want it getting trapped when there isn’t anyone to save us!”

 

“Hold on I just want to make sure this part of the building goes and then we can all get out of here.”

 

“I don’t know about you but I am going now! Hope I see you on the street soon or else we will be moving on without you Willie!

 

“I’m coming damn it don’t you fucking listen!!”

 

“I listen and I move when it gets too hot… now I am outta here you wanna burn your ass fine but you aren’t taking me down… I have way more fun planned before anyone stops me!

 

“Fine… just stop being a total ass hole Jimmy!”

 

 

 

Back in the truck about twenty quiet minutes later and maybe four miles up the road…

 

 

“TJ are we gonna be okay with the snow this deep?”

 

“Yes Shawn there is nothing to worry about, I am in four-wheel drive, and we are going to be fine. It’s just going to take a little longer with the deep snow on the ground. I don’t want to skid off the road and hurt us!”

 

“Okay TJ, I didn’t mean to ask the wrong thing.”

 

“You didn’t Shawnee kid. I just want you to know we are fine.”

 

“TJ it’s been a while are we going to be together tonight?”

 

“Yes we are Shawn why?”

 

“Because I wanna suc….”

 

“Shawn!” I said cutting him off before he finished the word. “DJ is here remember?”

 

“Oh I forgot… sorry DJ.”

 

I looked at DJ in the mirror and he was smiling and then I looked over at Shawn and he was three shades of red from forgetting about DJ in the back seat. I drove on for the next thirty minutes doing no more than forty miles per hour or I started to lose control in the snow. I could tell this wasn’t going to be fun to do too often with the ground covered. Maybe we should find something for these guys closer to our place. There is a big patch of property up the hill and around the corner from Roberts’s burn out house over by DJ’s place or actually down the road a ways. Maybe they might be interested in farming that area in the winter and I don’t know how it could work with planting what they have back home in the summer. Maybe I’ll ask when we get there but I have a feeling Cam doesn’t want to move and right now its too cold too and he would have to see the property. I doubt it but it would sure be nice to have them closer it the area was farmable for them. Well we were there, just now getting off the parkway and pulling onto his nicely plowed road. At least they do what they have to and keep their road open in the snow. It wasn’t as deep out here but still looked like a foot. I pulled up to the house and three boys came running out to greet us. Cameron ran to DJ and they hugged and the two other boys came over to me while Shawn stood next to me and watched. I got a hug from Chance the youngest of the boys as I always did and I big smile from Chance. I brushed his head as he beamed at me.

 

“How you guys doing?”

 

“We’re okay Tommy but always better when you come to visit. How are you feeling we are so happy to see you after you got hurt.”

 

“I’m getting better, thanks for asking Chance.”

 

Chase broke his hug and Cameron came over and gave me a quick hug. Shawn walked over to Chase after he was done hugging Tommy and handed him the game he wanted. He smiled and thanked Shawn.

 

“You feeling better Tom?”

 

“Yeah, thanks Cam. How have things been here?”

 

“We’re doing okay, just a little bored with winter coming and the snow and cold weather keeping us in.”

 

“Yeah Tommy we wanted to know if we could come visit for a day.”

 

“Chase! Chance yelled out at his younger brother you weren’t supposed to ask him till later.”

 

Chase turned away like he was suddenly all embarrassed because he spilled the beans so soon. I looked at Chance.

 

“What’s wrong with him asking me now Chance?”

 

“It’s just not right bugging you as soon as you get here.”

 

In the mean time Shawn is tugging at my coat and saying something while I am trying to listen to Chance talk to me. I turned and looked at Shawn.

 

“WHAT IS IT?” I screamed out as I looked at him.

 

“Tommy behind you!” Shawn screamed.

 

I spun and fifty or so feet away a half baked guy was coming at us. The boys screamed and headed to the house while DJ stood there not sure what to do. I ran to the truck. It was only a few feet from me and swung open the door and reached around under my seat. I grabbed my gun and turned towards the creature. The half baked gruesome creature was just a few feet from DJ as he stood there frozen not sure what to do.

 

“DJ DUCK! Get down!” I screamed at him.

 

He hit the ground and I opened fire with three shots nailing him and he fell to the ground a few feet from DJ. He got up and scrambled over to me after coming to his senses.

 

“SHIT Tommy! That was close. Thanks man! Thanks a lot.”

 

I reached out to him and put my arm on his shoulder.

 

“Now we are even pal.”

 

“Huh?” he said.

 

“The rest stop you killed the one while we were talking that day!”

 

“Oh yeah… I forgot.” He smiled at me. “Its different when you see them coming and you have a gun Tom.”

 

“I know kiddo, I know.”

 

I brushed the side of his head with my hand to comfort him and then he went over to Cam and they hugged. The others came back over quickly after that and after he broke the hug with DJ Cam looked at me while at the same time Shawn was now grabbed me and clinging tightly to my side now.

 

“Its okay Shawnee kid you did great!” I put my arm around him. “Next time I will try to pay better attention to you. Sorry about that.”

 

“Its okay TJ but wow that was close!”

 

“That’s the third one this week Tom. Thank God we have the animals and they act up if something is out of sorts.”

 

“Third one?” DJ said.

 

“Yeah best I can figure they know we have animals and they are looking for food and since it’s cold they are somehow finding us.”

 

“Damn, next time I am bringing my gun!” DJ exclaimed.

 

“Did any of them get close?” I asked Cameron.

 

“No. each attack was during the day and I got the other two with my shotgun and I picked them up with the backhoe and brought them out back to the swamp and dumped them in. I won’t be able to do that much longer it’s starting to freeze over.”

 

“Guess now is as good a time as any to ask then.” I said. They all looked at me. “Would you boys be interested in moving closer, say if we had a farm up the hill by us or farm land up there for all your growing and your animals?” 

 

“Gee as good as that sounds Tom I don’t know. We are so used to living here and the property and all you show us would have to be perfect for the animals and we would need at least one big barn for the chicks and roosters along with the other few small hens and all that we have.”

 

“That is just down the road a ways from my old house Cam; I think if you saw it you would like it. It’s got a lot of property and quite a few building, but of course it’s up to you. I just wanted you to know.” DJ said to him.

 

“Is it modern at all DJ?” Cam asked.

 

“I’m not sure what exactly is there but I think there are a few buildings a big barn and a really modern house. After all it is a richer area.”

 

“We wanna go Cam!” both his brothers started to clamor at him.

 

“We’ll see when we can guys. It’s too cold and I don’t want to abandon momma and dad’s property. If something happened to it I would feel horrible.”

 

“I know what you mean Cam, said Chance but it would be great if we had someone closer. I will miss the water hole and all but why couldn’t we come back during the early spring and farm the land like we did every other year?”

 

“Yeah big brother there has to be a way we can go it? Please?”

 

“We’ll see. It’s a lot of work moving all the animals and we only have one carrier to move them in. That alone would take a few trips and what about all the hay and feed that would bust my back to move.” He looked at me as he said that.

 

“I don’t know much about what you are saying Cam but we have a lot of boys that eat your eggs and drink your milk so between us and the other house I would be they all help out if it came down to it.”

 

“That is if they ever wanted another taste of milk!” DJ said to us.

 

We started to laugh out loud over that and it certainly eased the fear that the half baked just caused a few minutes ago. Cam looked at me.

 

“Do you think it could work Tommy? Do you think we could get enough guys to help us move?”

 

“Yes with the right pressure and threat of no milk I am sure we can.”

 

“You know it won’t take long come spring we will have more chicks and eventually if we can handle it with enough help we might be able to grow a bunch of chickens and have fresh food come summer. All we need is to grown corn and hay and a few other things down here and it might really work but without those two things we don’t have any way to feed the animals. It’s a lot of hard work but we are so used to it now that it’s really part of our every day up through winter. We have a flat bed truck and we’d only need one more good one to transport the hay and all. If we got a few of the guys to chip in it would work great and none of us would over do it come pickin time next season.”

 

“That is awesome news Cam.” I said. “The chickens alone should make a few of them happy.”

 

“Yeah till they learn they have to slaughter them Chickens to eat them!” Chance said.

 

I laughed and Shawn turned a little sickly as he heard what Chance said.

 

“You have to kill them?” he said to me.

 

“Well how else do you have fresh chicken Shawn?”

 

“Can’t we just go to the store and buy it?”

 

We started laughing at poor Shawn and his totally innocent question.

 

“I wish we could cute boy but no one is around anymore to get it to the store for us.”

 

Shawn kinda got quiet after that.

 

“That is just the beginning Tom… we never tried before but I know my pa taught me how to do it and he said if you really ever wanted to try it Cameron you could get the proper area you can easily raise plenty of food in a few years to feed a lot of people. I have been doing the rest with him for a long time so whether we do it here or up the hill if the property is big enough maybe we can move. It’s just too soon to know now.”

 

“I understand Cam but after we look we’ll know more. It’s a good thing you listen to your dad.”

 

“I had to or he would kick my butt.”

 

I smiled and chuckled at his comment.

 

“Its not funny Tom my pa could really sting my butt if I got out of sorts.”

 

“I’m sure he could but that won’t happen anymore now will it.”

 

“No and as much as I hated it I wish sometimes he were here so he could do it one more time.”

 

Cam got a little sentimental on us after that and he got all quiet. DJ went to him and they hugged and he looked at me.

 

“Tom we are gonna go inside okay?”

 

“Sure DJ. We’ll take care of the half baked and be in shortly.”

 

Cam looked back at me.

 

“Thanks Tommy. Chance knows how to drive the backhoe without a problem if you can help him it won’t take long at all.”

 

“Sure Cam go ahead in with DJ we’ll see you in a few minutes.”

 

They turned to go in and Chase and Chance stayed out with us.

 

“We’ll help you Tommy. I will go start up the backhoe now.”

 

“Okay Chance I’ll wait here for you.”

 

We watched as Chase ran across the open lot and over to the over hang that the backhoe was parked under. He fired it up and threw it into reverse and headed towards us seconds later. He drove right up to the dead beast and lowered the bucked. I went over and lifted the stinky dead creep into the bucket and moved back. He was a horrible sight to see but nothing I haven’t seen before. After all we have been through its sad to say I am getting used to seeing bad things now. Chance lifted the front bucket up a few feet and the three of us jumped onto the side. Shawn got on with me on the left side and Chase got on the other side and he drove us all around back and to the edge of the somewhat frozen creek. He lifted the bucket up as high as he could and extended it out to its limit. Right after that he tipped it and the dead guy fell out and crashed through the ice making a splash and we watched as he sank out of site. After that he drove us back up to the house and after he parked we went inside to warm up. We all had some hot chocolate with their creamy fresh milk added and after that DJ and Cam went to have a little private time while I talked to Chance and Chase and Shawn went to his room.

 

 

In Cameron’s room:

 

Both boys sat down on his bed.

 

“Boy have I missed you DJ. My brothers have been okay and all and I have been holding together pretty good but I swear there are times when I really need you around.”

 

“Then you think Tommy’s idea is a good one?”

 

“It’s too soon to know for sure but I really like it. It’s not up to me it’s up to what the place he has picked out will do for us and if we can get enough help to move everything to it. Its complicated DJ but yes I love the idea of being closer to you and everyone else and still keeping everything we have pretty much intact.”

 

“So we….”

 

Cam cut him off.

 

“No more talking DJ.”

 

Cameron put his finger to DJ’s lips. They got close and their heads softly met. Soon after that their lips met and then their eyes closed and both boys seemed to melt together and before long things were quiet and all that could be heard were their hands running over each others bodies and lips smacking as they made out.

 

 

Across the hall:

 

 

“Hey Shawn come on in.” Chase said as Shawn followed towards his room.

 

“So what have you been up to?” The cute angel asked him as he walked in with Chase following behind a step after he stopped at the door shutting it behind him for privacy.

 

“Not much Shawn it’s pretty boring around here this time of year. I hate to say it but seeing those monsters around actually has given me something to enjoy.”

 

Shawn immediately started thinking about what Chase said. Without delay his mind went back to his rape. He wasn’t sure why but just the way Chase so nonchalantly said that to him, like he got enjoyment from seeing the monsters come around… it hit Shawn like nothing ever did before. He wasn’t mad just scared. He lowed his head and began to shake.

 

“Shawn are you okay?”

 

He didn’t answer.

 

“Shawn??” Chase said as drool began to run from Shawn’s mouth.

 

Not sure what to do Chase got up and ran yelling out of the room and headed towards Tommy. But by the time he got there he had the entire house uprooted and running towards his voice.

 

“Tommy, Tommy come quick! He yelled as he ran into the kitchen. Something is wrong with Shawn!”

 

Tommy got up nearly knocking Chase over as he flew by him and headed towards Chase’s room. Following closely now as he ran was DJ and Cameron who heard the commotion while in his room. They were both half dressed with both of them naked from the waist up. They followed a few steps behind as Tommy reached Shawn. He got into the bedroom and immediately noticed Shawn was in distress and arched over half on his side.

 

“Oh my GOD!! SHAWN!”

 

He quickly got down on his knees in front of Shawn.

 

“Shawn! Shawn can you hear me?”

 

Tommy leaned in closer to check him.

 

“NO! He isn’t breathing!”

 

He grabbed Shawn like he was a stuffed doll and quickly laid him out on the floor while screaming for everyone to get back and give him room to work. By the time he got to his face his lips were turning a shade of blue and it was apparent he was dying from lack of air. Tommy quickly slapped his face semi hard twice to try and snap him out of it but nothing happened. He opened one of his eyes and took a look and his eye was rolled back in his head. In a panic he immediately started mouth to mouth on Shawn and gave him one round of chest compressions. With the next mouth full of air Shawn came back and started to cough. Tommy quickly turned him on his side like he was trained to do as a lifeguard but there wasn’t any water involved this time. Shawn’s eyes opened wide and he took a deep breath and gasped. He regained some of his control and looked at Tommy as he sat up and began to cry. As the other watched in awe of what was happening  Tommy who now also had tears in his eyes quickly clutched Shawn to himself and stood up bringing the boy with him and he sat on the edge of the bed placing Shawn on his leg and an arm behind him trying to comfort the boy.

 

“Shawn are you all right?” he said.

 

No answer.

 

“Shawn!” He screamed. And Shawn looked at him.

 

“Yes TJ….” he coughed a little. “I am okay what happened?”

 

“You passed out and stopped breathing.”

 

His eyes opened wide as he looked at Tommy and he started to cry again as he hugged him. Through his tears he spoke.

 

“I remember now TJ… now I know what happened.”

 

He pulled away and looked Tommy in the face.

 

“I was talking to Chase and we were just talking about how things were and he said that he enjoyed seeing those monsters come out of no where and he laughed. TJ he laughed and then I remembered what happened to me and I guess I lost it and passed out.”

 

He was border hysterical now as Tommy hugged his most prized possession in the world next to his brother.

 

“It will be okay Shawn they will never get you as long as I am around.”

 

The other boys had total looks of confusion on their face since none of them knew Shawn’s past and the story. Tommy looked up at them.

 

“Would you give me a minute alone with him please and shut the door?”

 

“Sure Tommy.” Cameron said as he gently pulled his brothers back out of the room and DJ followed closing the door.

 

“Shawnee kid you know nothing is going to hurt you as long as I am around. Come on now take a breath and calm down you are fine now and you are safe.”

 

Through tear filled eyes Shawn looked at Tommy and spoke.

 

“But it was all so real TJ. First outside that thing came at us and then Chase made fun of them saying he liked seeing them but he doesn’t know TJ… he doesn’t know what can happen… he needs to know TJ you have to tell him how bad they are and how much they can hurt you. Please TJ… Please tell them so they don’t get hurt too!”

 

Tommy brought Shawn to his body and hugged the badly shaken up boy tightly.

 

“I will cute boy… I promise as soon as you feel better I will. Now why don’t you lay down a bit and rest while I talk to them.”

 

“Nooooooo!!!” He screamed out. “TJ I don’t want you to leave me right now… please I am still scared they might come again!”

 

“Shawn….!” Tommy said sternly, immediately breaking Shawn from his mild hysterics.  “Hey it’s me remember… I am not going to let anything ever hurt you now please calm down and relax.”

 

“Okay TJ I will try. Can you get me some water?”

 

“Yes I will be right back with some. Now please lie down, take a few deep breaths and just relax.”

 

“Okay I will just please hurry back okay?”

 

“Yes Shawn I will.”

 

Tommy got up and opened the door closing it behind him. He was immediately bombarded with questions about how Shawn was doing and what happened.

 

“Look…” Tommy said as they quieted down. “As soon as I settle him down and give him some water we will go into the kitchen and talk about it. In the meantime, he said looking at DJ and Cameron, why don’t you two get a shirt on unless you are going back to what you were doing.”

 

“Okay Tom, DJ said. We’ll meet you in the kitchen in a minute.”

 

Cameron turned and headed to his room with DJ following.

 

“We’ll have to do this later DJ, sorry”

 

“Hell, don’t worry about it I want to know what the hell happened in there!”

 

“Yeah me too.”

 

In the meantime Tommy filled a glass with water and hurried back to the bedroom where Shawn was lying down and calming some.

 

“Here you go cute boy. Now slowly sip it and you should feel better.”

 

“Thanks TJ.”

 

He grabbed the glass and slowly sipped it like he was told. When he was done he handed the glass back to Tommy and he put it on the floor.

 

“Now you relax some for a bit. I need to talk to them; they are all worried very much about how you are doing.”

 

“Okay TJ just don’t go too far away.”

 

“I won’t Shawn I will be in the kitchen and I will leave this door open.”

 

“Thanks TJ.”

 

“You are welcomed.”

 

Tommy turned to leave.

 

“TJ?”

 

He stopped and turned to face Shawn.

 

“Yes love?”

 

“Thanks for saving me again. I love you so much!”

 

Fighting back tears he broke off half a smile.

 

“I know cutie, I love you too. Now relax, I’ll be back soon.”

 

“Okay TJ.”

 

Tommy left the bedroom wiping the tears from his eyes as he slowly reached the kitchen. He walked in and had all four of them waiting with curious looks on their face.

 

“Tommy what happened?” DJ asked.

 

“First off we need to keep our voices down the door is open to the bedroom. What happened is that Shawn has a problem with his breathing because he got so scared that he passed out.”

 

“But what caused it Tommy. I was just talking to him about the monsters and he lost it in front of me.”

 

“I know Chase. You didn’t do anything wrong.” He looked up at the guys. “Lets sit and I will explain this to you.”

 

They all sat at the table and looked at Tommy.

 

“When I found Shawn after the comet hit he was beaten up and bruised. How it happened isn’t important right now but he was hurt badly.”

 

DJ interrupted…

 

“Sorry Tommy but you mean bruised like I was?”

 

“Yes,”

 

Both DJ and Cameron gasped at what Tommy said.

 

“What? What happened?” Chance said out loud as both boys gasped at the news.

 

DJ looked at Chance.

 

“Before Tommy saved me I was held captive by a very bad man. While he had me he did stuff to me and that is sorta what happened to Shawn a long time ago.”

 

“What kind of stuff?” Chase asked bluntly.

 

DJ looked at him as Cameron spoke.

 

“Its none of your business Chase now stop asking personal questions!”

 

DJ reached out and grabbed Cam’s hand.

 

“Its okay Cam… you know he can too. It helps if I talk about it.”

 

He looked at Chase.

 

“I was kidnapped and while the bad man held me he hurt me badly.”

 

“Really? Badly how”

 

The typical young boy question without an ounce of understanding at all.

 

“That isn’t important!” Cameron yelled out once again.

 

Tommy looked at him.

 

“Please keep your voice down.”

 

“Sorry Tommy it’s just that Chase is asking questions that he doesn’t need answers to.”

 

“I know and I agree but Cam before I came out Shawn wanted me to make sure all of you know and understood how serious this is. He begged me to tell all of you so that is won’t happen to you too.”

 

“Yes… please tell them TJ.” A voice came out of no where as Shawn walked into the kitchen and stood next to him.

 

“Shawn… what are you doing up?”

 

“I feel better TJ and I want to be here for this.”

 

“Okay.” Tommy said reluctantly. “Scoot around and sit on my knee.”

 

Shawn did as he was told and sat with Tommy. He began to speak and explain things.

 

“Shawn was attacked by two men and they hurt him badly. They looked similar to the one that came at DJ today while we were outside before and the only thing is they got Shawn and hurt him bad.”

 

Chase looked at Shawn.

 

“I’m sorry Shawn I didn’t know… what happened?”

 

“They did it in my butt Chase…”

 

All the boys gasped at his words not knowing how badly he was hurt and Chase lowered his head and began to cry. Tommy reached out and put a hand on Chase who was sitting next to him trying to comfort him. He raised his head and through his tears he looked at Shawn.

 

“I’m so sorry Shawn I didn’t know…” he lowered his head and began to cry some more.

 

Cameron got up and went to his brother and held him. DJ never got to make his point but it was no longer needed as the truth was now out. The boys tried to calm each other down and after a few minutes things settled down.

 

“I am so sorry.” DJ said to Shawn as he looked at him.

 

“Thanks DJ.” Shawn replied.

 

“Okay then… Tommy said. I don’t want to break this up but with the snow on the ground it takes longer to drive home and I do want to make it before dark. We have a bit of time left before it gets dark but how about we at least load up the truck with what we need and then if Shawn feels okay you guys can visit a little more before we leave.”

 

They all agreed with Tommy and everyone got their coats on and headed out to the barn to gather milk and eggs and bring them to the truck. It didn’t take long with everyone helping to load milk and eggs for us and Bryan’s house and now we are heading back inside to warm up. The temperature seems to have dropped some while we were outside because when we got there it wasn’t this cold. We entered the house and Cameron yelled out.

 

“Hot Chocolate for everyone!”

 

The boys cheered as we helped him make it and sat eventually enjoying some warm drink before everyone had another few minutes of privacy. Shawn clung to my side for now still shaken up from before but at least his cheeks were rosy red from being outside with us for a while.
