Chapter 87. Christmas Day.

Tommy awoke to a banging on his bedroom door.

“Come on Tommy!!”

“Yeah we wanna open presents its after 7:30!” another added.

They had waited and Tommy slept so well he overslept. He opened his eyes as they yelled from the hall and looked at the clock, 7:35. Great… he thought to himself.

“I’ll be right out!” he yelled to whoever was screaming to him in the hall.

He looked down at Shawn thinking last night was a dream until he saw the red bow on the floor. He then swung his legs over and put his feet onto the floor. Shawn was now stirring as he got out of bed and picked up the ribbon that he will keep and cherish forever Tommy then put it on top of his dresser before heading into the bathroom. After washing up and taking a leak he peaked outside and saw that it was lightly snowing.

“KEWL, A WHITE CHRISTMAS!” He said exclaimed.

He headed back to the bed and as he got there Shawn looked at him.

“Morning cute boy, Merry Christmas.” Tommy said to Shawn.

“Same to you TJ how are you?”

“I couldn’t be better or happier Shawn. You gave me such a great present last night I can’t wait to give you something today.”

He smiled at Tommy and then got up and headed into the bathroom as Tommy got dressed.

“If you hurry I will go wait to down with you Shawn.”

“I won’t be long TJ I just need to pee and wash my face.”

“Okay, no problem.” He said.

He went over and grabbed some clothes for Shawn and put them on the bed. Shawn brought them in with him last night. He was still totally naked so he had to keep his bedroom door shut for now. There was another knock on the door and a yell and it sounded like Kyle. Tommy went and opened it.

“Merry Christmas bro,” Kyle said to him.

Tommy quickly threw on some shorts and took a step out to Kyle and gave him a hug.

“Merry Christmas Ky,” Tommy said.

Then he kissed him on top of his head.

“You coming down, everyone is waiting?”

“Yes, as soon as Shawn is dressed we will be down.”

“Oh… so that is what’s taking so long?”

“Yeah sorta… that and I overslept since I had such an awesome sleep last night!”

“Oh really, is there something you wanna share?”

“Maybe later Kyle… but not with Shawn this close.”

“Okay, I’ll go tell the others you will be down shortly and if they don’t like it they can go play in the new fallen snow.”

“Exactly Ky, thanks.”

He brushed his hair and as he watched Kyle turn and walk away. He shut the door so he could have his privacy for a little bit longer. When he turned back Shawn was standing there and just putting on his underwear.

“Awwww there goes my beautiful sight of nakedness,” he said kidding.

With that Shawn just pushed his underwear back down so that it fell to the floor.

“I can go get the ribbon and put it back on if ya want?”

“I’d love nothing more cutie but we have a house full of impatient boys downstairs waiting to open their presents.”

“Too bad… because I am having way too much fun in here with you…”

“Nice Shawn but it’s not fair.”

“Okay TJ but just remember I offered.”

“Yeah and maybe after breakfast I might take you up on that offer.”

He stopped dressing and looked over at Tommy.

“Anytime TJ… anytime… last night was so awesome and you made me feel like a million bucks!! I love you…”

He smiled and pulled his undershirt over his head. Tommy walked over to him as he continued dressing.

“And I love you too my sweet, handsome boy.”

He said leaning in and kissed him on the lips.

“Come on we gotta get going.”

“Almost done TJ,” Shawn said.

Both boys were finally ready and they headed out to the steps. At the bottom Caleb stood guard and as soon as he saw them he yelled into the other room that they were coming and ran off to the room. Tommy thought that was odd but he and Shawn just walked downstairs and headed towards the tree. As they rounded the corner all the boys were standing there together as a group and they all yelled out together ‘Merry Christmas’ to Tommy. He smiled and turned a bit red from it but accepted it. He then went over to the boys they all shared hugs. Someone yelled out ‘it’s about time you got down here’ and everyone laughed as they began giving out gifts. The room was filled with the tearing of paper, ohhhh’s, ewwww’s and ahhhh’s for the next few minutes as the boys were handed or handed out gifts to one another. Tommy and Jon shared a gift and Jon and Kyle did too. Ben and Luke exchanged gifts. Tommy shared last night with his brother and they exchanged gifts. After about thirty or so minutes of this every box was open except for a few that were for the boys next door. While mingling, Tommy told Kyle and Jon that he has special gifts for them and he would share them privately in a little bit. He handed Shawn a gift last and Shawn’s eyes widened as he quickly began to rip the paper off of it. He opened it and inside the box was yet another box and each was wrapped individually. After this happened twice Shawn began to grow impatient as both Kyle and Jon looked on with Tommy and laughed each time he took another box out from the box he unwrapped. Finally, he got to the smallest box and he opened it. He looked inside and then at Tommy without reaching in for the gift and he smiled. By now half or more of the boys were watching and no one had a clue what Shawn had gotten from Tommy for Christmas as he finally reached in and grabbed the ring that was in the box. It was a friendship ring or call it whatever you want. Tommy then walked over to Shawn as he was slipping it on his finger. It was gold with eight diamonds in a circle around the outside and a solid light blue stone in the middle. Tommy told him that the price next to it was over 2000 dollars so they were real diamonds and that it was real 24 karat gold too.

“It’s awesome TJ, Thanks.”

“You are welcome Shawn,” Tommy said as he got a hug.

The ring almost fit perfectly and Jeremy came over and asked Tommy how he knew Shawn’s ring size.

“Simple, when someone sleeps with you as much as he does with me it’s really easy to have access to his fingers not to mention lots of other things.”

Jeremy started to laugh as he got the point Tommy was making. Shawn was showing off his gift as Tommy pulled Kyle aside and they snuck off into his room.

“Now it’s your turn Kyle,” he said handing him his final of the many gifts Tommy had gotten for his brother.

Most of them were clothes, ammo for the guns, or other miscellaneous things that he knew his brother would like to have but never got around to getting hold of. Kyle opened the box and inside was a gold chain. On it were two trinkets or charms. Inside the box were several more. Several were small gold guns that would fasten to the chain and one was a dolphin with diamonds in it. All of then were also 24 karat gold and very expensive pieces. He already had two charms on the chain; one was a small .45 automatic pistol and the other some type of derringer gun. In the box were various other solid gold pieces that Kyle could add as he wanted. Once Kyle was done looking at all of it he looked up at Tommy with tears in his eyes and ran over the few feet that separated him from his brother and hugged him.

“Thanks bro…” he said in a muffled voice. “This is so awesome and something I always wanted. I love jewelry.”

“That’s great because I thought about that, and I wasn’t sure when I picked it as your private gift that I wanted to give you. When you are ready we can go back to the jewelry store and you can look at the other stuff and pick out anything else you want.”

“Its totally awesome TJ thanks very much.”

He handed it to Tommy and asked him to put it around his neck.

“Turn around sweet boy.”

Kyle turned and Tommy put the chain around his neck. Then he had one more surprise for Kyle when he turned back.

“One more Kyle,” Tommy said.

“Another one,” Kyle exclaimed?

“Yup, I wasn’t too sure about this one either but I think you will look awesome in it too.”

He opened his final present. It was a bit bigger but not in thickness, it was wider in circumference around then the other boxes he game Kyle. He lifted the cover and it was a rope necklace, white in color and it had a medallion hanging from it that said Kyle. Again Kyle almost lost it as he held it up and looked at it. The gold medallion looked out of place but it could easily be moved to the gold chain once they were done.

“This is just as awesome Tommy. I totally love these!”

“Yeah well, I think it fits you perfectly little brother. You are a really hot looking guy and that just makes you look better. Both pieces do.”

Kyle hugged his brother and couldn’t wait to get out and show his new neckware off to the other boys. Tommy followed and watched as Kyle ran over to Shawn and with all the noise they were making the others just came over and looked. Some loved it and wanted their own and others were just like, wow that’s cool. But it did look awesome on his brother. Tommy looked at Jon and with all the fun going on he walked over and grabbed him and pulled him gently as Jon followed him up to his bedroom. He shut the door and turned to Jon.

“Guess its time I get my gift now?” Jon said boldly.

“Yeah Jon its time for yours,” Tommy said.

Tommy walked over to his dresser draw and opened it and pulled out another small box. He walked over and handed the box to Jon. Jon opened it after ripping off the wrapping paper and looked inside.

“Oh man, it’s awesome!”

“You know what it is?”

“Yup, I knew someone who had one but I never really understood what it meant.”

He said as he held it up. It was half of a charm necklace.

“It’s called a broken heart necklace. You get half and I get half. It shows our love for each other.”

Once Tommy explained it to Jon that way something happened to Jon and he broke down some and with tears in his eyes he immediately went over and hugged Tommy. It was unexpected, especially after Jon just told Tommy what he thought that he knew it was. Apparently, what Jon thought and what Tommy said were two totally different things in Jon’s mind. Jon held Tommy tightly for all of a minute as he seemed to be crying over his gift. Finally, Tommy was able to pull Jon away long enough to look him in the face.

“What’s wrong Jon?”

“TJ with everything that has happened in the past few months, and with how I see you and Shawn together all the time, I never would have expected a gift like this from you. Maybe between you and Shawn but not me, I always knew you cared about me but thought that your heart was with Shawn.”

He wiped his face as the tears ran down his cheeks. Tommy grabbed the tissue box and handed it to him and then cleared his throat.

“Jon, I can’t imagine how tough it’s been seeing me with Shawn and Shawn in my bed night after night. I am really sorry but I really do love him and he means the world to me. BUT… you are who I am in love with Jonathan. So that is why I gave you half of my heart today. I wanted you to know that no matter what happens between Shawn and me that you are the one I want. I can’t promise you this is going to get any easier, especially the way Shawn’s dreams have been going lately, but I promise Jon this is my token of love to you. I hope you can except it and understand that as soon as he gets mentally strong enough, he will be back in his own bed most nights and then you will be in mine a lot more.”

“I have been hoping and praying for this day to come TJ. I know I just heard you say it but I am still having trouble believing it.”

“I will do my best Jon, I promise. But you do need to remember that Shawn is still very fragile and his mental state isn’t 100% because of his vicious rape and the comet stuff. So all I can ask is for you to hang in there and I will do my best to get you as much time with me as possible. I wish I could explain it better then this Jon.”

The two boys got together and looked each other in the eyes till their lips met. They kissed for a while neither of them wanting to let go of the other. There was little doubt there was love between them and that Tommy did care a lot about Jon. The only problem was he loved two boys and at the moment he was doing his best not to lie to either of them and even more important not to hurt either of them. All he can do is hope this doesn’t catch up with him and he winds up losing one or both because he is trying to prove to both boys they are his number one love. As of now though, Tommy has Jon right where he wants and always has wanted him. Truth be told, if there were no comet and life went on without the disaster the overall chances of Tommy and Jon getting together were always better then Tommy and Shawn but at this point none of that matters especially since Tommy saved Shawn’s life and Shawn will probably never be able to forget or belittle the meaning of what that did for him and how he sees Tommy in his mind and heart. Time will tell where this one goes but for now Tommy is with the boy he loves deep down inside. The two teens kissed and made out for awhile as their hands wandered up and down and all around each others bodies. It was starting to get hot and another few minutes and there would have been two naked bodies on the bed but someone knocked at the door.

“Shit!” Tommy said in a low voice.

He walked over and opened the door, it was Danny.

“What can I do for you Danny?”

“Well I um… I wanted to know if you had some time and we could talk.”

“Right now isn’t good but later today would be fine Dan.”

“Okay, sorry I bothered you Tommy.”

Without saying a word Tommy shut the door, almost in Danny’s face. Then no sooner did Tommy get back over to his still heated moment his cell phone rang.

“Geezus! What is it today?”

Jon began to giggle and both boys stiff cocks softened as Tommy picked up the phone.

“Hello? Yes….” He listened for about a minute. “OH SHIT…That is horrible… okay then… right. Do they have anything planned? Oh, okay… that’s fine. Thanks for calling to tell me and if anything else changes or you need me call me. Yes I know Bryan; I just can’t believe on Christmas that sorta thing has to happen! I know and I don’t want to take that ride either but… let’s just see what happens. The roads aren’t good and it would probably take us a week to get there if we had to go back. Okay talk to you later. Bye.”

Tommy had a sick look on his face when he at Jon after he hung up.

“What’s wrong TJ?”

“That was Bryan. He said he got a call from the mall where they were living and something happened. Apparently after we left and Bryan followed us back a few days later, they sorta left Cody in charge and everything was going good. A few kids left but came back when they found out there wasn’t much better happening outside the mall and then all of a sudden today of all days on Christmas a group of about ten half baked or whatever they were stormed the mall and with about seven or eight boys in the mall there was a big battle and shootout and quite a few of the half baked got killed but at least one or two of the mall boys also got killed and two or three are injured. There were able to keep the mall for themselves but now there is all this mess and chaos in there and with all the broken glass at one end the mall is wide open now and it’s a very cold winter up there so even with the heat on and everything working good only about a third of the mall is livable because of the cold weather and the air from outside getting indoors. Cody told Bryan that they have two of the wounded boys somewhat stable but they bled out a lot and there isn’t much any of the remaining boys can do for them. There is probably a good chance that the two boys that were shot may die without help.” Tommy relied sorrowfully.

“Wow that sucks! That is just horrible!” Jon said.

“I know. Bryan was asking me if I would be interested in maybe going back to help out some or at least see if there was anything we could do but I told him that I wish there was something we could do… well you heard me. I just don’t know Jon, that’s a long ride especially with winter and no plowed roads up there in Minnesota. I can only imagine how deep the snow would be and how close we would get before we got stuck or even lost if we got caught in a blizzard or something bad like that.”

“Yeah TJ, I really don’t think it would be smart to go.”

“Well Bryan suggested taking along a snow cat. They can get through anything he said and he has seen them operate but the problem is they don’t go fast and they drink a lot of diesel or gas. Regardless we would probably have to stop every hundred or so miles to fill up, that is a guess of course, and there is no guarantee that there are that many gas stations still working to make that many stops at.”

“Yeah… I don’t know TJ as much as I would love to help I just don’t think we can go or anyone should go there now. If it was summer or something…”

“Yeah Jon, I know but if it was summer it would probably be less harsh and anything could have happened or be happening now. But it just sucks and I wish there was something we could do to help.”

“Did he say anything else?” Jon asked.

“Only that Cody will probably call back later today with more information and he had to go because one of the boys was coughing up blood or something serious.”

“Damn, that poor kid, he is up to his eyes in crap. I don’t know what I would do if that happened to me TJ.”

“I know Jon, I don’t either. But I do know I am getting hungry and I smell food so I think Ben is making that breakfast for all of us. Let’s go help or eat.”

“Yeah, we can fool around later right?”

“You bet Jon. You bet.”

They headed down to the kitchen to check out what was going on and Tommy discreetly filled Ben in on the happenings at the mall as he helped him with breakfast. The table was set and everything was ready about twenty minutes later and all the boys sat down for homemade waffles, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and French toast. Everyone ate well and pigged out on the beautiful Christmas breakfast after Tommy said a small Christmas morning prayer before they ate. Up to the point of the news from Bryan everything was going awesome and even though there isn’t much any of them can do from here Tommy was concerned just the same. He didn’t know Cody or the other boys that well but he respected what they were trying to do and he knew all too well about protecting your boys at any cost. For now all he could do was try and enjoy the rest of Christmas and wait for the next phone call from Bryan. Eventually, after breakfast was cleaned up and the kitchen was close to normal the noise in the game room picked up and a few of the boys from next door showed up and exchanged gifts with some of their new friends that they made here. Games were being played so yells and screams of fun were once again loudly echoing throughout the house as something good or bad happened in the game room. With breakfast now a memory and everything cleaned up it was already after 1pm and the late breakfast also served as somewhat of a lunch which made things a little easier on Ben and Tommy. Milk was now low and a trip to the farm would be needed in the next day or so. Eggs were also almost all gone too.

Tommy called over to the farm and wished Cameron, Chase, and Chance a Merry Christmas and told them they had a few gifts waiting for them when he got over there to see them in the next day or so. Cameron told him basically the same and asked for DJ to come with him so they could see each other again. It had only been a little over a week since the boys last swapped spit at the farm but the relationship between Cameron and DJ was growing stronger and both boys were getting closer each time they got together. It was looking more and more like the three C’s might move in up the hill after winter was over and if the land would be good enough to support everything needed. Tommy told Cameron briefly about what happened at the mall just to get his opinion and Cameron too agreed that a trip there now would be a major risk of life. After they were done Tommy gave his phone to DJ and he talked to Cam for about thirty minutes before DJ finally handed Tommy his cell phone back. DJ was very happy and couldn’t wait to go with Tommy to the farm. It was decided that the trip would be tomorrow because supplies were so low. They needed milk and eggs badly too if they wanted to make anything special like favorite foods. About three o’clock the gang from up the hill came down to celebrate the holiday and Kate brought a few cakes and some cookies she baked so that everyone could have some Christmas cheer and celebrate for a while. After talking with Bryan he had a special surprise for all the boys.

“Guys… we are having a meeting in the living room to discuss a few things so if you could all go meet in there.” Bryan said as they rounded up the gang once he and Tommy chatted briefly.

A few minutes later, everyone was together from both houses and the house was quiet except for Ben and Kate who already knew what this was going to be about. They were in the kitchen working on a late day snack for everyone. Which will now totally wipe out the remaining milk, all except for a gallon or so that Tommy had Kyle hide in the small refrigerator in his room for a ‘just incase’ issue. This time Bryan did the talking.

“Thanks everyone for your attention. As Tommy and a few of you know, there was a gun fight at the Mall of American early today, actually early this morning. A group of half baked rushed the place with guns and….”

He went on and explained everything as Tommy did to Jon before. There were quite a few upset boys especially Caleb because Bryan now had names and who was injured and killed since Cody had called back with the information. Bryan continued…

“The dead are Keith Everheart who was 15 and Steven Walker who was 12. The injured and who really are not expected to live at this time are Denny Sillow, age 14 and Danny Fenu Jr. who is also 14. Its touch and go at this time according to Cody who we left in charge when we came here. He said Denny was shot in the shoulder and lost a lot of blood and Danny Jr. was shot in the leg and also lost a lot of blood. Cody also told me that Calvin Hobbs who is 11 and Phil Nash who is 13 are okay incase any of you want to know. He said so far the five of them are hold up in the far end of the mall in the main sleep area, which is where Kate and I were staying with Joel before we left. Cody said its warm and safe in there and so far no one else has come back to bother them since they killed off about ten half baked guys in the fight overnight or early this morning as he puts it. I talked to Cody before we came here and I wanted to tell all of you as a group about this tragedy which is why I didn’t say anything back at the house other then to Kate. Cody said he will call me again later tonight and he is seriously thinking about leaving there now after they find out what is going to happen to Denny and Calvin. That’s all I have for now, sorry to ruin your Christmas but I felt all of you needed to know that as soon as possible.”

“Okay guys…” Tommy said. “I am sorry that we had to start this with bad news but if everyone would care to join me I want to take this time to probably piss off someone very dear to me and at the same time out him for not doing the right thing and sharing his birthday with us when it happened. So in changing the mood from somber to hopefully happy, Happy 14th birthday Jon…”

The lights went out and everyone began singing happy birthday as Kate walked in with a cake that had 14 lit candles on it. The background lighting was good enough to see the shock on Jon’s face as he looked at Tommy with utter surprise. As soon as everyone finished singing the living room light came back on and Jon was puzzled at how anyone knew. He wanted to keep it a total secret because the previous 13 were celebrated with his family and he wasn’t really in the mood to celebrate his 14th without his mom and dad around. He blew out the candles and accepted everything gracefully but he did give Tommy a look that said ‘I’ll get you for this’ after he blew out the candles. There were two more cakes in the kitchen so everyone could have a piece which was what they all smelled from before. Jon’s birthday celebration and of course Christmas were the original reasons why the guys from up the street came over today. Tommy’s boy turned 14 on Dec 14th and he kept it a secret all to himself until now. Tommy got up next to Jon and asked for quiet so he could roast Jon just a little bit. Thankfully the sadness of losing two boys has turned to a little bit of happiness for now.

“I just wanted to say that Jon…” Tommy turned and looked Jon in the face… “Happy Birthday my sweet friend, I don’t really know why you didn’t tell everyone a few weeks or so ago when you had your birthday but I am sure you had your reasons and I am sure from that look I got from you just before that I will get mine later too.”

Everyone started to laugh. Tommy gave Jon a hug because most of the others didn’t know about everyone being gay yet and Tommy wasn’t about to give that away tonight.

“Okay guys if you will hang for a bit we will cut the cakes in the kitchen and I am sorry but we are almost out of milk so you can have anything but milk to drink with your cake.”

“Tommy,” said Bryan “we have quite a bit back home, I’ll send Todd and Ryan up to get two gallons each.”

“Okay great Bry, thanks.”

With that Todd and his brother grabbed their coats and headed up to the house to get milk and the others started to get their piece of cake from the kitchen a few at a time. Jon pulled Tommy aside…

“I hate you!” He said with half a smile on his face. “I don’t know how you found out but I didn’t want to celebrate it this year because I lost my mom, dad, and sis and they always made me enjoy it very much.”

Tommy grabbed Jon by the shoulders.

“Look you have every right to be mad but remember Jon; we are your family now. I love you and have a special Christmas/birthday gift for you tonight after we get in my room so please don’t be too mad at me for outing you on you’re your secret.”

“I’m not really mad… I just didn’t feel like I had a reason to celebrate it TJ.” Jon said sadly.

“You do Jon and we are today! I love you silly boy and I want everyone to know that some day… even our guests from up the hill… but not just yet. We don’t need that kind of problem now especially with two dead and two near death back at the mall. Damn that pisses me off that a bunch of half baked were actually able to group together and attack the mall like that. Maybe they weren’t half baked after all but according to Cody they fought them off so time will tell, now Jon… okay enough sadness lets go enjoy your belated birthday!”

He gave him another hug and they headed to the kitchen.

“Make way for the birthday boy so he can cut the other two cakes…” Tommy said loudly as they entered or tried to enter the kitchen.

Just as everyone was enjoying their cake Todd and Ryan arrived back each carrying two gallon jugs of ice cold milk. Now let the cake party begin. Jon cut each of the remaining cakes and then everyone had a decent size piece but sadly there was only enough for Jon to enjoy seconds of the chocolate iced cake. Most of the boys put their sad thoughts aside for the rest of the day and they all got back to enjoying Christmas and having a good time playing around, chatting, and just hanging out. I told a few I was going to start a movie up in my room and about ten chairs were carried upstairs and those who wished to play a game stayed downstairs. Just about everyone else came up and took a piece of my bed or a seat on a chair or the floor and enjoyed Christmas on 42nd street. By the time the movie ended it was dark out and Bryan was ready to go next door and relax some. Kate had breast fed baby Joel and he was asleep so he wasn’t a problem. The boys were welcome to stay as long as they wanted so Bryan told Tommy he would call if he got any news from Cody. Then they bundled up the baby and the three of them headed back up the hill to call it an early night. All the Christmas lights were on in the house now and a fire roared in the fire place as a few boys gathered in there to enjoy the fire and talk about some things while other still played in the game room for a bit longer. By 9pm all the boys, Jose, Mike, Todd, Ryan, Matt, and Austin were heading back to their house and I was outside for a little bit getting some fresh air and hanging out with Jon, Shawn, Kyle, and Luke. All of us wanted some air and the night wasn’t as cold as it has been lately. It actually felt warm but the snow on the ground reminded us it was still very much winter.

“So guys, other then the stuff at the mall today was pretty good huh?” Tommy asked.

“It was all right.” Kyle said. “But TJ if no one got killed it would have been excellent. I really love my gifts.”

“Yeah I do too.” Shawn said. “I am sleeping in my bed tonight TJ. I know you already know that but I wanted Jon to know it.”

“Thanks Shawn,” was all Jon said.

A bit of a wind picked up after we were outside for close to thirty minutes and a few of the guys began to get cold, so the outdoor part was over for tonight. The sky was clear but up on the hill the winds sometimes blew oddly and it was cold with that wind regardless of the temperature outside. Back inside the living room quickly warmed the four boys quickly warmed up and Ben graciously brought in some hot chocolate for them.

“I knew you guys were outside so I decided to make you something to warm you up.”

All four of them thanked Ben, especially Tommy, for all he did today to make it a great Christmas for everyone, at least in the belly department. Back up the hill Bryan’s cell phone rang…

“Hello?”

“Bryan its Cody… I just wanted to call you to tell you that the boys are still alive and the five of us are huddled up here staying warm and trying to make the best of this. I don’t feel safe here anymore Bryan… I am scared… I wanna leave even if the others don’t. Bryan hang on Steve is yelling something.”

He put the phone down and he could hear some commotion in the background and then a few gun shots. There was a scramble and then Cody returned to the phone…

“Bryan a few of them are back, they are downstairs and shooting up at us.
